G’day everyone
I thought you might like to see the results of the motorkhana last weekend. As you will see the top 4 places were very close. I thought Justin and Andrew did a great job; well done, lads! Andrew’s J15 is so quiet, and Justin’s Locost was super quick on the run to the finish line. I reckon it was faster than the 4WD Skyline. If you look at George’s times though, that is very consistent driving!
Father and son team Ben and Dave Currell did a brilliant job with their carburetted Westie. Well done to them! I’ve suggested to them that they join the Club.
The tight course certainly favoured the small cars. Scott Mackie did a great job again to get his Spitfire up at the top of the rankings.
Shane Cardy was driving his Dad’s orange locost and had a great time. I can’t publish his times as he was a “Come & Try” competitor, but he was only a couple of seconds off the leaders and very consistent. Haden Sargeant in a Falcon XC hardtop was also a Come & Try entrant, and did a great job in a big car unsuited for the tight course. He and Lindsay Hamersley in the Mustang were both very impressive. Haden has competed before and his performance this year was much improved.
Carl Della was in a Mini this year having driven a Monaro last year. His times were very consistent, but he just couldn’t seem to get it to go any faster. Blake Watson in the other Mini fared much better and put in some consistent times just a couple of seconds off the leaders, but on this short course that wasn’t enough to get him into the top three.
Bruce Pollock was very smooth on course and hardly made a mistake. But then he put it up on the kerb coming into the finish garage to sully his reputation. Doug Simpson and Mick McGrath added to the Triumph coterie of Bruce and Scott, but they were running smaller engines and I think it was Mick’s car that did not sound at all well.
Chris Malone had a good run in her Escort, but only managed to get 3 timed runs in, so had to be content with 9th place. Peter Pelham in the 240Z had 5 very consistent runs, but the Z car did not seem to be suited to the course. It sounded like it was geared for speed and therefore was a bit slow getting out of the turns. Nevertheless Peter was smiling as always.
A very low number of penalties this year, so I might have to make it harder in the future! Or longer…
No photos from me, sorry, but there was a media team there so we might see something later on.
We had an international visitor, so Vice Pres Barrie suggested we have a Coffee & Lies run to celebrate. John found our Club from the article that Barrie had sent to Complete Kit Car magazine in the UK. Here we are gathered together to read the article. John has joined the Club and will be moving to Perth in a while. Welcome, John!
There’s a few more photos here.
After breakfast and coffee some of us went for a run up through Serpentine Dam. Andrew and I peeled off after that and the rest carried on to who knows where.
