It’s that time of year again when the club needs to do a little administrative work. Our club constitution requires us to give all members notice of the AGM to be held at the next club meeting in October, and at that meeting to elect the office bearers, set the annual fees and most importantly decide on the date and location of the annual wind up barbecue.
So make sure you attend or send in your apologies or you could find yourself elected in your absence. This year has been a very successful year with attendances at meetings regularly topping 30 or more (in fact we had to buy more chairs and a bigger urn) and at last night’s meeting there were 9 clubbies parked in the driveway. There have been a record number of cars completed and registered including 3 of our founding member’s cars taking to the road.
We did have some fears that the dept. would introduce IMT 240 emission testing, but the whole thing ended in a mess when the aftermarket industry found that they would be adversely affected and started to apply pressure. The IMT 240 requirement is in abeyance but could raise its head at any time so we need to be ever alert. Many thanks go to Bruce Varcoe who was able to keep us informed on what was going on as his employer was directly affected.
We have had several displays of our cars at events this year and the turnout of cars has been a bit disappointing considering the number of cars now on the road, so try and make a greater effort in the coming year. We also need to get members to organise runs, usually on a Sunday morning and my thanks go to Ken, John and Neville for this year.
Doug has upgraded our website but needs more input so if you have solved a problem on your build please let him have that information so that other don’t have to reinvent the wheel .
I would like to thank Charlie (as secretary) and Greg (treasurer) for their efficient running of the club, and other committee members for helping when required. The club has recently added several new books to the library and bought several new items of equipment, and will continue to do so.
If you have any suggestions please make them known. See you all at the AGM
Barrie Nelson (president)
This has been a very successful year with our build manual finally compiled and printed due to Darryl’s continued effort. This project was started 6 years ago and it has been my aim each year to get it done. The manual will only be available to club members and each copy is numbered and registered to that member. The cost is $20.00, this was agreed at the September meeting as being a fair price and they are available from the club secretary. Butch was quick off the mark and purchased copy number I. Also at the September meeting we demonstrated the new scales and a photo was taken which we intend to send to Kit Car magazines, as they would like news from our club. We already have contact information in the Complete Kitcar magazine in the UK and they published a small article and picture.
If anybody still has club equipment will they please return it to me as I have gained some shelving so that I can keep it all under one roof, and you will not have to chase around to get it. I intend to make some small ramps for the scales so that cars don’t have to be jacked up to get them on the scales, which should make it quicker to operate and adjust. We will monitor very carefully who has use of them and only bona fide member/builders will have use of them and there will also be a time limit.
It has come to our attention that the slush fund has not matched the number of people attending the meetings, so please make sure you put your gold coin in at each meeting, as this covers refreshments as well as our end of year function.
We have seen several cars take to the road and by all accounts the process has been straight forward and the manual should make this continue to be painless.
This year’s subs will still stay at 25$ and are due now, we don’t pro rata them as they are so low it’s more a show of faith in the club, and incredible value for money.
Well that’s it from me I hope you all enjoy the club as much as I do,
Regards
Barrie Nelson.
